Summer tyres for the warm months

A summer tyre is built for the conditions Britain drives in for most of the year. Above roughly 7°C its firmer compound works as designed, keeping the tread blocks stable under braking and cornering loads, so steering stays precise and stopping distances stay short.
The shallower, stiffer tread pattern puts more rubber on the road than a winter or all-season design, which is why a good summer tyre out-brakes both in warm, dry conditions — and, with a modern silica compound, in warm rain too. Every summer tyre here is graded for wet grip on its EU label, so the differences are visible before you choose.
The trade-off sits at the other end of the thermometer: as temperatures fall towards freezing, the compound stiffens and grip tails off. If you run one set year-round, weigh up an all-season tyre; if you swap to winter rubber for the cold months, this is the range for the other three seasons.
