Understanding this size
- 265 — width
- The tread is 265 millimetres across, sidewall to sidewall.
- 40 — profile
- The sidewall height is 40% of the tread width — the aspect ratio.
- R18 — rim
- Radial construction, fitting a 18-inch wheel.
- 101Y — load and speed
- The load index states the weight each tyre may carry; the letter is its maximum rated speed.
Every marking on the sidewall is decoded in our guide to reading tyre size markings.
